With support from local business, Abbey Wood based dance and performing arts group Theatre Street Performing Arts now has the opportunity to be represented at next month’s Destination Dance competition. This is the UK’s premiere dance competition where dance schools from all over the country can compete for trophies and scholarships to some of the UK’s best dance colleges. The competition is open to any number of styles including jazz, hip hop, lyrical/contemporary, musical theatre or ballet. Sponsorship by Priorclave, a local Thamesmead business with a global presence as a leading autoclave manufacturer, has provided the opportunity for Theatre Street to take a young group of dancers to next month’s Destination Dance which takes place on the 25th and 26th October. Theatre Street provides affordable dance, singing and drama tuition particularly to young people with classes conveniently held after school and at weekends. More recently it introduced a BTEC Performing Arts course, a full-time programme that gives each young performer the opportunity to gain a thorough insight into dance/acting and singing up to the Level 3 Extended Diploma. An essential part of Theatre Street’s activity is to encourage children to undertake physical activity and exercise, and to get involved in activities developing their confidence and skills using dance, drama and singing.
